A barber in Australia is facing a discrimination lawsuit after he refused to cut a girl ’ s hair in his shop. Sam Rahim, who has his own barber shop on Sydney’s North Shore, became embroiled in the scandal late last year, when a customer walked into his workplace with a request that Rahim said was unusual.

He is being accused of discrimination by a woman after he refused to cut her daughter’s hair at Barbershop Hunters Hill on the North Shore in December.

The mother, who is a lawyer, filed a complaint against the barber store in the Federal Circuit Court for an alleged breach of the Sex Discrimination Act.

“I firstly would like to thank everyone for the support thus far as it has warmed my heart,” Mr Rahim said on the GoFundMe page.

“The legal costs are more than we have ever anticipated.”

Mr Rahim told 9NEWS he rejected the girl’s haircut because he was a barber, not a hairdresser.

The complainant, who 9news.com.au is not naming to avoid identifying her daughter, supplied the following statement last week.

"A claim has been brought against Hunters Hill Barber Shop in the Federal Circuit Court for an alleged breach of the Sex Discrimination Act. The basis of the claim is that the barber shop refused to simply run the clippers through my daughter's undercut, because she was a girl.

Zooey Deschanel settles lawsuit with former managers

Zooey Deschanel settles lawsuit with former managers 'New Girl' star Zooey Deschanel has finally settled her lawsuit with former managers. The New Girl star has been locked in a legal battle with former representative Sarah Jackson and executives at Seven Summits Pictures & Management, who worked with her from 1996 and 2013. IT HAS BEEN ruled that a barber shop that refused a woman a haircut did not discriminate. As part of the case, Carroll claimed that the female barber said that she was not able to cut women’ s hair and would get in trouble if she did so.

"I indicated to him that I did not need him to style, cut or trim the rest of her hair, which is styled in a 'bob'.

"Mr Rahim's explanation was that he wished to keep his barber shop for boys and men only. He never said he was not qualified to cut women or girls' hair, as he has incorrectly reported to the media.

"The matter remains before the Court and it is inappropriate for me to provide any further comment at this point in time."

On the 9 News Facebook page last week, Tom Carrette said Mr Rahim was extremely generous, especially as he helped raised money for The Leukaemia Foundation.

"This lady obviously doesn’t know that Sam helped raise $11,000 for The Leukaemia Foundation by shaving the heads of nine boys free of charge."

Mr Rahim said it has been a very stressful time and that he was hoping to raise $50,000 to assist in paying the legal fees.

The page has so far raised $6000 since it was started.
