  'Dead man' turns up alive after family wrongly ID body A man whose family thought he was dead after wrongly identifying a body has turned up alive. The man's wife and her relatives mistakenly told police in Japan that the body of a man found in a river was him and officers even handed it over to them.The mix-up only came to light when the woman's husband, who is in his 40s, returned alive to Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, last month.It turned out the body, which was found about a year ago, was actually that of a missing Tokyo man in his 30s.

A man ' s body has been found in a river on the NSW south coast close to 24 hours after he was involved in a car crash nearby. The 26-year-old' s body was found in the Bermagui River opposite a property on South River Road about 5pm on Saturday after he was reported missing in the morning.

The discovery was made about 10am on Thursday in Richmond River at Woodburn, south of Ballina.

Local police, volunteers and SES in boats launched a search with the help of a helicopter following reports on Tuesday night the 45-year-old had fallen into the river and hadn't been seen since.

Police are now trying to piece together his movements before his death.

They were initially told the man may have been sleeping rough on the riverbank in the company of another man.

They arrested and charged a 43-year-old with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail and is due back at Lismore Local Court on July 3.

It's unclear if or how the two men are connected.
