When news broke on Wednesday morning that one of the State of Origin games in 2020 will be played at the Adelaide Oval, most NRL fans reacted with anger and confusion.

According to NRL.com, to ensure crowds can reach maximum capacity, either game one or two - which is now played on a stand-alone weekend - will be entrusted to the South Australian government.

The news comes a year after the West Australian government paid several million dollars to host the second game of the 2019 series at the new Optus Stadium.

Expansion plans in rugby league have been talked about previously, with fans suggesting that teams should be included from Western Australia or even PNG.
